18/01 - A good jam-packed day

We got up around 9am, we packed our bags and checked out, we are going back to a dorm tonight... Luckily in a different room (yeah!! no more snoring old smelly guy!). The problem is that we can't check in before 12pm, because the beds are still taken for the moment and then they need to clean the room. So our luggage are back in the storage room and after breakfast we were off for the day.

We went back to the Royal Botanical Garden to properly visit it this time!, we went in green houses with exotic plants, we learned about how the Australian Aborigenes had been treated (I was a bit teary by the end of it...) and walked around different beds of exotic trees. Finally we walked all the way near the Opera House to have lunch.

Just before 1pm we went to the Opera House for our guided tour. We were really excited about it but ended up being really disappointed... We were not allowed to take pictures inside the rooms, we only visited the studio and the small hall (not even the big concert one). The guide was talking a lot but not to say anything important. I learned more from the small videos than from her... (comparing it with Porto "Casa de la Musica", this one was really crap...).

After the tour we went to finish our lunch back in the park and we headed different ways. Damien to the Museum of Modern Art in Circular Quay and me to the Aquarium in Darling Harbour. I picked up my Merlin Annual Pass, which gives me unlimited access to 11 attraction throughout Australia (kind of) including 1 in New-Zealand for 12 months.

I went in the aquarium, at first it does not look that great, so I went pretty quickly, there seemed to be nice interactive activities for the kids. I went all the way to the jellyfish and I also looked for Nemo and Dory (found them!). After that I arrived in the tunnels!!! Wow really cool: sting rays, bigger fish, dugongs, various sharks...

I am in Sydney and I met Dory, Marlin and Nemo!!!

I was finished by 4.30pm but I still had 45 min beofre meeting Damien. So I decided to go to Madame Tussauds (wax museum). It was empty, I managed to snap a picture with pretty much everyone I wanted (selfie style), some are pretty horrifying...it was actually quite hard because they are super tall statues.

I met D. just before 5.30 and before heading home we decided to inquire the price (with YHA card) of the IMAX. We had a pretty good discount so we took tickets for tonight 9pm. Now we had to hurry home, eat and come back out for 9pm.

We took the LightRail train. I checked us in and made our beds while D. was cooking us dinner (Homemade nachos and beans sauce!! Delicious). I also socialised with our new roommates (German, Chilean, +French but have not seen him yet) and uploaded photos on the hard drive.

We walked (fast) to the Imax to watch Star Wars VII !!! We have pretty good seats (H24/H25), the film was AMAZING!!!! SPOILER: strong female character, the black guy does not die but the old famous one does. It is pretty funny and really entertaining!

We walked back home, talking about the movie. Arrived at the hostel a bit after midnight, we went to bed straight away.

Walked 11.7 km today.
