07/10 – Farewell Western World

Yesterday (6/10) we left late in the evening sunny and warm Marseille for London, where we had a layover of 10h. Unfortunately we arrived late at night and by the time we reached the city centre, it was already midnight, and could not see anyone. Luckily the baggage were checked through all the way, so we travelled light. To our surprise (but it should not have been) it was raining… I think we got used to the sun!

The hostel was… interesting? We were in the basement, with bunk-beds, sometimes 3 on top of each other (super high), they had curtains included in each bunk, which was actually neat! But for one of us, the bed was too small…. The door had some kind of problem and made noise all night, plus with the stress of missing our flight, we woke up a lot.

---------

7am, time to get up, breakfast was at half past and at 45 we needed to leave. It all went smoothly, one of us took a shower and used the bed sheets to dry (shhhh! it’s a secret – we thought of packing pyjama and toiletries but not towels…), breakfast was on time and edible. By 7.50 we were out and heading to the Piccadilly line for Heathrow. We ran in the 1st train but had to change before the airport for Terminal 5.

Once in the airport we went to a British Airways counter to ask them if they could do something about our seats (in Marseille they could only give us separated seats, it was fine for the small flight but the 8h one, no!). They changed us and we even got an upgrade!! We were now in Premium Economy.

After that everything went pretty quickly, we ran a few errands, passed security, took the transfer train to reach our gate and we boarded. What a nice surprise, our seats were big and comfy, we were given a pillow, a blanket, nice headphones, an eye mask, compression socks… luxury! While everyone was boarding we browsed the film selection, wow a lot of movies offered, is 8h going to be enough??!!

During the flight we both watch 4 movies, we had a complementary lunch and a sandwich after that. Our plane was a bit late, but not much. On arrival it took us a while to go through security and pick up our luggage. By the time we were out of the airport, had some money and found our shuttle it was midnight. 2 Americans were in the same shuttle minibus for the hotel, they are here on business.

Arrival in Terminal 3 at Delhi Airport

To get in the hotel, we had to go through Hotel security (a bit like the airport one). We checked in, went to our nice room and by 1.30am lights were out.

Slept in a nice double bed room in Hotel Ibis, near the airport.
